Glen made the reservations for this spot about 6 months ago - gone are the days of heading out on a Friday night and finding a spot anywhere on the Kenai Peninsula or even up north. We pulled the trailer out of storage, took inventory of what we had - I'm sure we could live off the s'mores ingredients alone. We figured out our meals made a stop off at the grocery store and headed south. It was a bit eery, but there was absolutely no traffic holding us up and we made great time.
The kids are at that special age when its really easy to make friends and I think it only took them about 30 seconds to meet the campsite neighbors and off they went exploring in the woods.
The fishing was closed on the Russian River - it actually opened up today at 12:01am and I am sure there were fisherpeople tipping their fishing rods in the river at that precise time.
We took a hike up to Russian River Falls, there was some complaining but the weather was warm with a slight breeze and of course we had snacks to keep their energies up.
Next time up we plan to take the bikes and reach the lake.
but for now, the falls were perfect - total hike 5 miles. Sydney took a nap for about 3 hours when we got back and Seth about fell asleep before he hit the pillow and since we live in Alaska where the sun is still out at 11pm, Glen and I got to sit by the roaring fire.
